One Picture Shows Why I Hate Right To Life Nutjobs, The Vast Majority Of Whom Are Republicans

Look at it.

This was taken in 1994 during a famine in Sudan. It won a Pulitzer Prize for the photographer, Kevin Carter. Three months later Carter committed suicide. Can't say that I blame him.

If you're in the Bible belt of the USA though, chances are you've never seen this picture. Americans don't have a good record of being able to handle ugly truths. Chances are you've never seen what your tax dollars are doing in Iraq either. If you'd like to, just drop me a line.

More importantly though, if you're an American Bible belt right thinking Jesus lover, you know what kind of life counts and what kind doesn't. The naive among us might think you'd be interested in fighting for that child's life, and the millions just like him that didn't have the good fortune to die close to a camera. Your fight for "life" however, applies to the sperm and the egg, and only to the sperm and the egg. Because that is the way to advance your own personal power, and that's what your fight is really all about. Once the kid is out, they're of no further use to you since mommy is trapped for the next 18 years and now has a huge disadvantage if she wants to do anything like compete for your job. You know it's hard to challenge your position of authority when there are mouths to feed, so sorry slut, no abortion for you, and we're working on stopping the whole contraception thing as well.

And if some of those mouths don't get fed, well, those African babies don't really count anyway do they?

Although your kind makes me sick, I do admire your political savvy. There was a time when being a Republican meant you were probably the main-street banker type of person. A practical, thrifty, plain kinda folk who looked over the ledger at the end of the day through his little round steel rimmed spectacles and knew that spending way more than you took in was a sure fire recipe for disaster.

That pillar of main street is gone now. His party is now run by frothing at the mouth lunatics who run up and down that same street shouting insults at 18 year olds trying to get to the Planned Parenthood clinic. You kill doctors. Because you're pro life. You bomb the Olympics. Because you're pro life. You bomb the clinics. Because you're pro life. Then you take over one of our political parties and claim it's the only one that can fight terrorism.

Maybe you just really like vultures.

To the rest of you: Send a message on Tuesday. Vote. Help stop this country's bleeding.

Its true I grew up in the bible belt where about everyone gets preggers by 18 and then the right to lifers want to tell a girl what she can do with her own body. They don't care about the born as they are against helping the women they feel no sex for anyone but in marriage yet the highest rates of teen pregnancy etc are in the Midwest..
There they like them young and related.. and no I am not kidding... religion makes me sick especially the way it is these days...

That is the most awful thing I have ever seen. I am sitting here with tears in my eyes. In this world with all the money and EXCESS food... No one should have to be hungry. No baby should have to be born to some one who can't or won't take care of it. It's not fair.

The Bible nut Republicans would love my weblog.

I just discovered your blog, and I love it. In this post, you have nailed the "right to life nutjobs," whose only concern is for the "sperm and the egg," and not for the post-birth baby. I would like to add that, in my opinion, much of their fervor has to do with a basic disapproval of the sex act itself. If a woman (or girl) has sex, then by god she has to pay the price! The price being, of course, having a baby. Why else would the most zealous of the wackjobs also be against contraception?

Several years ago, I accompanied my newly pregnant, single, 45 year old, best friend to an abortion clinic. We had to cross a picket line of placard-waving, insult yelling do-badders, who tried to dissuade us from entering the clinic. My friend cooled their ardor by asking which of them would like to adopt her baby, if she carried it to term.

Thanks for saying all that. I have felt this way for years. These idiots love the unborn, but once it's born, there is no compassion.

If they truly care about babies, why aren't there more programs to help parents be better parents?

I would hate to think that I was born as a punishment to my parents for having sex. What a horrible burden to carry through life.

I never understood how these people could justify bombing Planned Parenthood clinics. If they think that abortion is murder, they should know that killing innocent people who are doing their job is also murder.

I don't believe in abortion , I never will, but I would never discourage anyone to have one, that's their business. The picture has been bothering me for sometime now, I lost a son, I came expecting to read your blogs, their quite funny, but never expected to see a picture of a dead baby/child. I want you to know that it's had quite an effect on me, and while that may be a good thing, (I am not sure yet) it never the less brings back harsh memories. I can see your point, sorta like a shock blog, kinda to burn in peoples minds about how Pro-lifers care about the unborn, but not the born. I'd like them to practice what they preach, would they like to go to that 12 year olds house and care for her baby while she makes a life, by going to school? Would they give her money for Pampers and formula? NO I don't think so. So while I don't believe in abortion, I also don't believe what pro-lifers preach. I also don't like the fact that they try to get their points across by violence. Their going against what they preach. Their violence killed people, the people are someones child... Know where this is heading? That's really all I have to say, I just want to let you know that even know I don't know you personally, I am a fan and I enjoy reading your blogs, but this time the pic was alittle too much, there are alot of people out there who have lost children, and even though my loss was 4 years ago, the memories hurt like it happened yesterday.

I just saw this entry. Holy! I am pro-choice. I would never be able to have an abortion myself, but god help me if I ever impress my personal opinions and beliefs on another. With that said, I wish I still had the link for the video of an anti-abortion rally. The person filming the rally asked each protester about their stance on punishment should abortion become illegal. All of the protesters agreed that abortion should be illegal. They were then asked what sort of punishment should be doled out to the woman who has the illegal abortion. Few could answer... others tried. None of them thought that the woman should be punished within the capacity of law. Many of them said "God will judge". The interviewer pressed on, asking why. Why, if abortion should be illegal, should their be no punishment? Laws are set in place so that an action causes a punishment. None of those protesters had thought that one through. Some admitted it, some didn't... but none could answer the question. Which leads me to believe that those protesters are short sighted and narrow minded. Just my opinion though.

thanks for your blog. very thought provoking!

I found your blog by accident. The first story I read was great and before I knew it I almost read your entire blog. Glad to see that people still have the guts and compassion to write like you do.

Hi y'all--
It's great that none of you would ever impress their personal beliefs on someone else. Fact is, someone like you IS doing this every day. In pharmacy. With the force of law.
I'm not comfortable dispensing Plan B. I stuff my conscience down and do it anyway, and I don't give any customer sh*t about it, but I don't like it. I got into pharmacy before COG guidelines, and before the politically correct rammed this one through the legislature(yes, I regret the imagery, but think it applies). I wrote against it to my senator, who wrote back and told me to 'mind my -- business (how's that for taxation without representation? She could at least be polite if she wanted to tell me to f- off).
Mostly, every time I dispense Plan B, I feel like a Nazi 'who vuss jusst following orderzz.'
I have no right to conscience at work. This has been decided by law. If I refuse to give it out just because of my conscience, I will not only be fired-- I am in danger of losing my license to practice. Anywhere.
"So, get out of pharmacy, do something else." you say. 'Taint that easy. I am an old guy--this is all I can do. I support a wife with severe emotional issues and a handicapped son--AND we are all headed into the greatest Great Depression the world has ever known. Folks, its only me, bringing home a paycheck. So I suck it up every day, go to work, and do what I have to do.

We Americans have never easily let someone else's conscience alone. Conscientious Objectors had a very hard time in World War II, but they were allowed to say 'no' because of their convictions.

We Pharmacists, however, have given the would-be Nazis the upper hand. I wonder if anyone outside of Washington DC has realized it yet: For the first time, the legislatures of many states have told a small group of conscience-impaired people, "We don't f-ing care if it violates your conscience to give out Plan B. We expect you to put your conscience aside, AND JUST FOLLOW ORDERS. And if you don't, you are not just fired-- you will be made de-licensed, unemployable, and publicly shamed when your name and address are published in the State Board of Pharmacy Bulletin."

Do we _really_ want people dispensing drugs without a conscience? I guess we do.
If you are OK with Plan B, good for you. I will never protest in front of your pharmacy, and have never picketed an abortion clinic. I just want the ability to not participate. But we have settled THAT issue now. All MUST participate.

When euthanasia gets written into law, will any of you refuse to fill the Rx for lethal narcotic injection? It doesn't matter--Because now we have a legal precedent. Conscience is no longer a legal excuse to refuse to do anything that has been deemed a good medical practice. None of us can say 'no' any longer to anything, not really.
Don't think that the insurance companies are not looking at that 80% of healthcare expense at the end of life, and thinking how much cheaper euthanasia would be--for them. Isn't 'end-of-life counseling' a feature of ObamaCare?

Since we're talking about Plan B-- I work in an inner-city store. About once a month, a 20-something guy walks into the pharmacy on a Friday afternoon, and tries to buy 5 plan-B's at a time. He is planning a big weekend, and (even though condoms would be cheaper, and might prevent him from passing AIDS to his girlfriends) his comfort is more important. I don't sell to him. How do I know if his 5 girlfriends are 18 or over? I can't know, so I don't sell.

Five college boys came in for a Plan B. One of them was 18, but I wouldn't sell it to him either. I don't sell Plan B unless I have the young woman in front of me, with her driver's license in hand. Otherwise, how can I know if I am staying in the law?

Probably I'll be fired and delicensed anyway when the 5-packer complains to the Pharmacy Board

Hope from the Bible Belt -- Here's a charity which addresses these kinds of problems directly.
http://www.forwardedge.org/

Also go to Charity navigator to assess how good the charities are at getting help to the victims of disasters / famines.

The real trouble is a lack of freedom, which enslaves people and causes maldistribution of resources.

We cannot stop this kind of hunger by sending the morning after pill. It is very ineffective. It is not even shown to cause a decrease in demand for abortion. http://redfarmaciaresponsable.com/documentacion.html

We have also not stopped HIV in Africa by sending condoms. http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/227110/saint-peters-square-harvard-square/kathryn-jean-lopez

To the anonymous pharmacist,

Cigarettes kill people. Viable, post-womb people. But I can't refuse to sell them based on whatever prejudices I might have. Same goes for you. I'm glad that legislature passed. You can't imagine how pissed off I was at pharmacists who refused people's prescriptions because of their own personal hang-ups. You don't like Plan B? Don't buy it. But that doesn't give you the right to deny selling it to someone without your opinion. Your job is to dispense medication, not judgement, so step down off of your high horse and do your job.

to the Plan B pharmacist; just to alleviate your guilt if I may, check out the pharmacology on Plan B. The dosage itself does not in anyway cause a spontanious abortion. This pill simply delays ovulation in the female so that there is no available egg for the sperm to penetrate for the 72 hours it is alive in the female body

To the anonymous pharmacist- Ignorant 'professionals' such as yourself are the reason I was denied appropriate healthcare after a rape. Educate yourself. Plan B is not an abortificeant and even if it was it is none of your business. If you had a moral objection to narcotics would you deny or objet to dispensing them?
