Today, A Sincere Thank You To The State Of West Virginia......

....for reminding me why I got the hell out of that part of the country.

Mrs. Clinton defeated Senator Obama Tuesday in a primary where racial considerations emerged as an unusually salient factor.

The number of white Democratic voters who said that race influenced their choice on Tuesday was among the highest recorded in voter surveys in the Clinton-Obama nomination fight. Two in 10 white West Virginia voters said that race was an important factor in their vote,

Two in 10 is another way of saying 1 in 5. And that's the number of cracker-asses in West Virginia willing to admit to being racists. The real number is much higher, as most racists aren't brave enough to say publicly what they are. Trust me on this. I'm an insider.

Here's the funny part. Most of these hillbillies have probably never seen a black person. I was 13 years old when I saw my first black dude. I played baseball and he was the coach of the visiting team. I was probably in college before I saw any more.

So, I don't say this often, so listen up West Virginia. Vote for McCain in November. I want to be as much unlike you as possible. I don't want to look like you, I don't want to sound like you, I don't want to like anything you like, and I sure as hell don't want to think like you, when you bother to think. Because you're stupid.

Too stupid to see how you, your parents, and your parent's parents parents have been nothing but fucked over by people who weren't black.

Did a black man own the coal mine that broke the spirit of your grandfather? No.

Is a black man blowing the tops off your mountains and dumping the waste in the holler? No.

Did a black man start the pointless war that killed your child? No. Yet somehow you still get all teary-eyed believing the lie that is your daughter Jessica Lynch.

I hate to tell you this hilljacks, but you have far more in common with the people dealing with the legacy of slavery than you do with the people spending the profits of king coal.

But you're too stupid to see it. Vote for McCain West Virginia. It's kinda funny to watch them fuck you now that I'm gone.

The rest of you know what to do.

Wow, Drug Monkey. I am a native Kentuckian and my mom tells me that they're looking at much the same situation in their neck of the woods next Tuesday. Even in a staunchly Democrat county where they live (one of the only two that Kerry carried in 2004), they're vowing to vote for McCain. And most people have no problem admitting that it's because of Obama's race (or, likewise, Hillary's sex or lack thereof).

[Things like that, though, are a large part of why I now call myself a Californian. Especially today, with the news that the state Supreme Court has paved the way for same-sex marriages. You know the Governator is shitting his pants, having previously committed to signing the legislature's bill if the courts declared the ban unconstitutional.]

So if they can't uunderstand they're being assraped by the white man (not the black man), the Republicans (not the Democrats, mostly), then let them go on with their weird notions. Let them think The Man is Jesse Jackson. They have no one to blame but themselves.

I had a tech who was a senior citizen originally from West Virginia. It was so hard to get her to acknowledge minority customers who came to the window. She used the word "colored" freely, and when she'd say "Black" she'd almost spit the word out. She had a nephew who dated an African-American girl and it was like the end of the world.

Hey Drugmonkey,

I balked a bit before posting on your comments again considering the flak I got the last time I commented about a political post, but here goes...

What do you think about Obama's history with the Rev. Wright? I'm pretty sure many agree that Rev. Wright spews a lot of hate in his speeches (rather racist hate) and that Obama was a parishioner of his for around 17 years. I find it hard to believe you'd know someone for 17 years without knowing a bit about his character...and in my personal opinion, if I go to a church and spend my time listening to a person, it's because I plan to either learn something from what he's saying or I respect him.

And I know you've posted a video about this before and yes I realize that you can go back and find less than flattering relationships with religious figures for all of the candidates but...

I'm not trying to say Obama is this or he is that, but it does give some food for thought.

(BTW -- I'd love to have a rotation with you 4th year. I'm pretty sure you don't practice in my neck of the woods, however.)

Intern,

The answer to what I think about Obama's preacher is actually right there in your comment.

Why would you wanna come have a rotation with little 'ol me? I'm guessing because you like what I say here. I'll flatter myself and say maybe you even respect me a little.

Keeping that in mind, would you want to be held accountable for everything I've said here? I've said some pretty abrasive stuff, yes? And someone could totally run an attack ad saying THE INTERN WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO WORK WITH THIS MAN......

Then they could cut and paste a few paragraphs together that would probably make you want to crawl under a rock for ever associating with me. Yes?

But they wouldn't be getting my whole message, would they? Now, I don't know Rev. Wright's whole message, and I'm very.....very...disappointed with how he conducted himself after this controversy broke, but I'm gonna bet that in addition to the crazy shit you've heard, there's a lot in his whole message about justice, about comforting the afflicted, about truth and love and peace and lots of the other goodies religion is supposed to be about.

And I still say if you're gonna go looking for crazy-ass preachers you're gonna find way more and way scarier ones on the Republican side.

We're always looking for free labor at my corpo-pharmacy.....

Good response... Just because reverend wright is a nut, doesn't reflect on Obama as a person or mean that they share the same views. People are just looking for anything they can find to throw at obama, because really there isn't much bad you can say about him. Using Wright to dislike Obama is seriously reaching.. and would most likely be replaced by another equally stupid reason if Wright weren't around being a kook.

My guess is that all the anti-Obama crowd is really grasping at straws trying to find something they don't like about him. They talk about his pastor, his impassioned speeches (I keep hearing that a lot of people think he's a smooth talker!), his stand on democratic discussion with those that stand in the way of peaceful means for world resolution of problems, his stand on abortion--no different than the majority of Americans (or more wrong than the other candidates), his youth, his color. etc.

My opinion (which I consider truth, of course) is that we need someone with true intelligence, maturity, and someone who is working for the 'good' of all Americans, not just picking and choosing which Americans will benefit in the effort help defend and uphold the Constitution.

The credibility factor is a little difficult to unearth when it's covered with smut and a dancing, noisy 3-ring circus (Hillary and her ignoramuses), or doesn't exist (McCain).

I'm looking it at this way, 10 or 100 or 1,000 years down the road no one is going to find Obama had a secret agenda or cadre of Nazis willing to take over the country while we were 'asleep'. The times ain't good (especially as pharmacists we see FDA crumbling or at least in trouble), but collectively as a nation we're more apt to work together for the best under good leadership than with a boatful of half-hearted conscripts led by a corrupt or inept boss who hastens to speak out of all and both sides of her/his mouth at every misturn and whipstitch.

I mean, I've never studied to fully analyze the record of any of 'em, and I'm certainly not G-d, but how can it be sensible to just go along with a person who belongs to the Republican party, yet has no predictable path of reasoning or rationality, nor someone who expends so much effort to in just going along with what the campaign manager says to say.

Seriously, I'm seriously being paranoid but I'm really starting to feel all of this is a conspiracy, a conspiracy for good, but a conspiracy none the less. Ever since the Rev Wright exploded, notice how much the whispers of Obama being a muslim have died down. Once all this silliness with Hillary ends, the American people will get to see Barack really shine, and they'll come over from the dark side.

This is my first visit to your blog - and I loved this entry. It was an awesome rant.

Don't despair, Drugmonkey. We're not a total writeoff. If you look hard enough, you might find a WV nurse who likes a good whiskey AND voted for Obama in the primary. She might be as close as your comment form...

DM,

You might find this interesting, from another blog I read:

I'm a pharmacy intern at Northern Virginia and I get the West V. "Hillbillies" since they can get there cigarettes cheap at my Corpo-Pharmacy. Taxes are low for Virginia's top crop (besides weed). Most of the MD's, nurses, PA's, and pharmacists left WV since liability insurance is astronomically high. The smart people followed. Also when the average WV local has the intelligence lower than 5th grade level then you can guess what happens after the 'mistakes' with Rx’s occur. What's in WV right now is not exactly a pretty sight.

Great response, Drugmonkey. Your point is well taken if not necessarily agreed with by me.

The democratic primary appears to be a no-win situation - either you're a racist for voting for HRC or a sexist for voting for BHO. Which is the lesser of the two labels?

Splat and Antisplat said...

Anonymous -- While some may see it that way, perhaps most, I for one prefer to think of it in the more positive light. It's a beautiful choice we've never had! Instead of being sexist for voting for Obama, or being racist for voting for Hillary, instead ALL of us are supporting the first minority president. :)

In truth, though I am supporting Obama and I'm a guy, and I'm even gay, I'm a pretty strong feminist too. I have been since even before college. So I'd like to see someone try to tell me I'm being sexist by voting for Obama. It's not about race and it's not about gender: It's about hope and a bulldog.

Rev. Wright is not a nut he just doesn't talk in the way most white folks like. Even drug monkey doesn't have a problem with what he said just mostly the way he behaved.

See, white people like their black folks to be non-threatening. Obama speaks in slow, steady measured tones, even slightly whiny because that's what white folks like. That hat-in-hand demeanor is simply what Rev. Wright does not possess and honestly, he shouldn't have to.

For the most part, I do like drug monkey's response to Intern and the fact that Intern doesn't agree doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

At least drug monkey "gets it" which is impressive and definitely a step in the right direction.
