Dear Republican Doctors: Your Ass Has Been Saved. Please Remember By Who.

An update on the attempted Republican screwing of doctors I wrote about the other day:

Senator Edward M. Kennedy made an extraordinary return to the Senate on Wednesday to deliver Democrats a decisive victory on a signature health care issue despite his own treatment for brain cancer.

Looking steady but flushed in his first visit to the Capitol since his cancer was discovered in late May, Mr. Kennedy was quickly surrounded by senators who could barely keep from overwhelming him despite cautions to keep their distance because his treatments have weakened his immune system.

....Kennedy’s medical team had cautioned against the visit but Mr. Kennedy would not be deterred.

Kennedy literally risked his life to bail you out Doc.

John McCain was campaigning in Ohio.

We haven't been saved, yet. The President has indicated he will veto the bill.

HR 6331 passed both houses of Congress with veto-proof margins. The House approved it 355-59, and the Senate vote was 69-30. Since a two-thirds majority is needed to override, it appears there are enough votes to defeat any threatened veto. I choose to be hopeful. And hurrah for Senator Kennedy!

"Now available through this special private striking for American citizens at face value -- only $20."

Does that mean only American citizens can buy it???

This is embarassing. My mom worked at WTC when I was little; I saw the towers fall from my Bio class. This stupid commemoration means absolutely nothing.

Why they would air it on Comedy Central makes no sense to me.

You are right but it passed with a veto-proof majority. The idiot president could send it back for a yet another vote. If no one changes theirs votes, it law baby!

The way I see the point of the article is that Republicans used to just screw the little guy. Example...cutting social programs not funding welfare etc... Now, Republicans seem to represent only big business like insurance companies and PBMs and will screw doctors, pharmacists and anyone else.

This law was passed by the senate because Ted Kennedy rallied the troups. It also helped that the AMA targeted ads in key states where Republicans Senators are in election years and don't want to look bad back home. The community pharmacists lobby is also growing faster than it has ever before and generated over 20,000 phone calls over the last two or three weeks to congress. If NCPA motivated 20,000 lazy, appethetic pharmacists can you imagine how many doctors called congress?

By the way drug monkey, I credit your article for getting the bill passed. How many hits do you get on your web site every day?

Ah, IDIOT president strikes again with a big VETO on this bill. You know he wants seniors to have many choices and he is just saving the Medicare Advantage business. Choices? A choice is "do I have a ham sandwich or a turkey sandwich for lunch?" Not, "what the hell is this 2000 page book Medicare just sent me explaining all the different plans I can join?"
