Attention Pharmacy Students: Take A Good Look Before You Decide To Enter Retail.

Race baiting coward disables commentary. Maybe people don't like you because of your sour attitude and not arbitrary characteristics like race.

The argument is immaterial; the public fracas is routine in the world of pharmacy...we are not trained to be mediators in matters of social discourse. When was the last time that Psych 101: Crowd Control was mandatory for those on the retail track? Is there any argument about why pharmacists try to keep their noses clean and to the grindstone, and not ruffle feathers and just do their job?

Some days, I am so embarrassed to be a minority... *sigh*

I would have refused to fill his wife's rx and kicked him out of my pharmacy.

While I do not know why he carries a camera around, he has valid points. The pharmacist also seems to be inflaming the situation for no reason.

To Andrea: if you go to his youtube page, there's a seperate video which shows a tech dropping the script off at his car. From the text on that video, I infer that things got more heated and the police arrived (not necessarily in that order) and he was kicked out of the store.

It's like I've always said: we are only a couple of hidden cameras and a repeal of the HIPAA laws away from being able to create one incredible reality television show at work. And there are so many people that are so volatile that the smallest thing sets them off. And what is sad is that this kind of stuff happens daily.

This makes me not want to go in to work today....my stomach hurts now.

do you think this behaviour would be tolerated in a bank? why have pharmacies turned into fast food joints and banks command respect? i would have called the police and told them i felt threatened. maybe a little bad publicity would be good publicity for the profession. this is such bullshit!

He is horrible! Just horrible. I would have called the cops sooner. I hope this NEVER happens to me at work! =(

I so agree with Redhead, and I think it is doable. The've done it for an airline, for two repo companies, and a pawn shop. Why not for pharmacies? The public can then assess how being behind the counter starving for food and taking this s**t affects a person.

Solution --

Pharmacist: All of you. You are not having this conversation in my store. Leave and your prescriptions will be ready in 20 minutes. If you continue to talk I will return your prescription and tell you where you can it filled. Thank You.

This type of behaviour should not surprise any of us. I see it daily in my pharmacy, I call the "Me First" mentality. So many people have gotten so detached from the rest of society that they could really care less about anyone else. This guy obviously (like so many) thinks that his own importance and his own needs outweigh the needs of everyone else.

He's of the ilk of people who, when told that the reason there prescription will be "X" number of minutes because there were other people who were here first will say "Screw 'em, do mine first, I'm more important than everyone else".

Some day society will hopefully evolve to the point where we consider the needs of others to be just as important as our own, but until then this type of BS will continue to happen.

What another fine example of humanity, and I am losing faith in them all.

The last time someone pulled this sort of BS on me, they were standing giving me a whole load of grief and stress while having the cheek to complain that I wasn't getting their rx ready quick enough (because you are talking smack and stopping me from doing my job you idiot). I took it up to a point then from somewhere I thought "no way, this is not happening tonight" and just gave them the rx back, informed them I would not be filling it and directed them to the other big box down the street. Not worth the stress when there are another 300 prescriptions a day that don't cause problems and confrontations. They probably complained to corporate and got some sort of crappy apology and gift card.

The mistake that the babe behind the counter made was to get involved at all. Just shut up and continue plodding away at your task. If they want to hurl RPG's at each other let'em..or let some dumbo asst. manager deal with it. You are getting paid to accomplish a series of mundane tasks...NOT referee hill billies.

Goddamn poor people. The whole reason I'm a socialist is so that people like this won't exist after two generations.

Patrick said...

I really appreciate the pharmacist's commentary on race. Right on!

Anonymous said...

The pharmacy tech behind the counter should've just stayed out of it and did her job. Like Anonymous said a couple of comments above, let the assistant manager deal with it.

Anonymous said...

Excuse me, I guess the tech is really a pharmacist. My point still stands though. Why did she continue to egg him on?

Patricia said...

Alright, like everyone, there are innumerable points in this video that are absolute. bullshat.

I agree with Redhead, the repeal of privacy laws are awful.

But I have to say this: All FIVE of the people in this scenerio (besides the rubbernecking floor worker and the final fellow that checks him out). I do not agree with pulling the race card . But two individuals in this tape pulled it supreme style. The 'Do you know what they call ME?!'...after September 11th...?!' makes no pertinent point.

This isn't calming down a potentially physical altercation. Plus, the addition of the camera puts everyone on edge. Your average Wally World and Food Giant have a no cameras policy for a reason.

Question: Um...managers at Big Ole Drugstores. Do they have any 'power' (as much as anyone with a nametag that says so) at the pharmacy counter? Do they exist at all? Is this a tree falling in the forest question?

This guy needs to be shot. Seriously. I hope this never happens when I'm working. I would have notified someone higher up in Rite Aid, at the very least to report that gross HIPPA violation. He knows the law, then he shouldn't have been running that camera. Comments are disabled on his video. He knows he's a douche.
