A Quickie. It's Late And My Time Is Short.....

From today's New York Times......
Demand for lithium, long used in small amounts in mood-stabilizing drugs and thermonuclear weapons....
Some nights you catch a break and the posts just write themselves. Even if they are short.

Holy Mixed Episodes, Batman! Until this article, I never saw the connection between global warming and mania.

DrugMonkey - you and all pharmacistskick serious butt! My pharmacist let me know about Li toxicity when NSAIDs are taken in combination. In honor of the anniversary of the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Big Bopper and Richie Valens, here's a lyric for y'all (to the tune of "American Pie"): I was singing bye bye @#!*ing ell eye, took the bottle to the trash and I didn't cry, them good ole boys filled scripts and advised...this won't be the day that I die, this won't be the day that I die...

My PCP's shiny new EMR system raised no red flag, although a review of current meds was done and the EMR printed off the NSAID script.

Hey, DM, the story about lithium that went 'round in my pharmacy school was that epidemiological research on areas of the country experiencing lowest manic levels was associated with highest lithium drinking water content just 60 miles down the Laramie Plains, so that association was investigated a little further--wouldn't be able to tell about mania there, now--nor correlate a lack of 'mania' with anything in particular. Am imagining that there must be plenty of lithium in dried up deserts areas of the world...

I'm thinking all bipolar patients are terrorists since I have to go to group therapy with them. I'm bipolar and they scare me.

So far I have managed to talk my shrink out of making me try the lithium. I've heard it's a creativity killer. If that were the case, I'd have a good reason to off myself. Luckily I'm allergic to the NSAIDs unless, prescription Ibuprofen is an INSAID.

Grease too......don't forget lithium grease....such a versatile atom...In your average B-52 you can use it to lube the axles....modulate the weapons and medicate the crew....

Bowers added that liberal Democrats would be comforted if Obama at least changed his mind and decided to name the 34-year-old Bowers or a blogger from Daily Kos secretary of homeland security.

Charlie in a utopic (is that a word?) world, he woulda recommended a laxative, that would be sweet to fix his impatient ass, but of course we are too ethical to do that.....

We need to think about the poor bipolar terrorists, imagine suddenly realising everything is great and the world is amazing moments before you blow yourself up because the world is so crap and your life is a mess.

There is no doubt that lithium is the single most effective treatment for the manic phase of bipolar disorder. I have also read about the side effects of high levels of Lithium in drinking water
which is called Lithium toxcity.
